A Friday Outing to Rybabar
We’ve really come to enjoy cooking together, but you don’t always feel like standing over the pots or the Thermomix. Especially on a Friday, when you’ve been busy doing things all week. The prospect of spending another hour in the kitchen doesn’t exactly seem like the best idea.
Especially since it was a beautiful day. Instead of trying to figure out what to cook, we opted for a ready-made meal. Specifically, some fish at the nearby Rybabar.
I usually go for the burbot there. And it’s not a random choice. I know the burbot is a fish that doesn’t require me to run constant security checks.
No surprise bone attacks. No digging around in my food with a fork, wondering if a trip to the ENT doctor is in my near future. You can just eat and actually focus on eating.
This time, however, I decided to go a little crazy. Instead of my tried-and-true burbot, I ordered baked trout.
I really like fish. I honestly do. I like the taste, I like them baked, fried, smoked, and I can eat pretty much most fish with pleasure.
There’s just one small problem. The bones.
I dislike bones very much.
You could say I have trust issues with them. You take a piece of fish and start eating. Sure, everything seems fine, but somewhere in the back of your mind, there’s this thought that the fish might still be hiding something from you.
That’s why, instead of just eating in peace, you start conducting a thorough inspection of every single piece. Fork to the left, fork to the right, examining it from the right angle. Only then can you risk the next bite.
Baked trout — peace at last
Luckily, this time it was a lot more peaceful. The trout was baked, and the bones were either baked soft enough or visible enough that they were easy to find and remove.
Because of that, I could focus on the taste instead of searching for the next threat to my life.
And that is exactly what eating fish should look like. You order fish, you get fish, and you eat it. No extra surgical training, no magnifying glass, and no checking if you’re about to swallow something you definitely shouldn’t.
The verdict
So, the baked trout turned out to be a very good choice. And our Friday outing for a ready-made meal reminded us that while cooking together is fun, sometimes it’s even more fun when someone else does the cooking. Rybabar is absolutely perfect for that.
