On April 10, a personal data administration training was supposed to take place in Krakow, and it even got started. After the first break, the news of the president’s plane crash in Smolensk reached us, and the classes just fell apart. Once there was no point in sitting around at the training anymore, we headed out into the city. The overall sadness was visible right away. The first memorial candles, photos with black ribbons, and flowers began to appear. A massive crowd gathered at the foot of Wawel Castle (where, coincidentally, an exhibition about Katyn was on display)—tons of people had already grouped around the Katyn cross. Only the Wawel Dragon and the Vistula River, beautiful as always in Krakow, seemed unmoved.
