In February 2018, the Tour De Stand-up crew rolled onto the stage with a mission as simple as the design of a chair—to bring the audience to tears. From laughter, of course. Four comedians decided that the best way to survive the winter was to ruthlessly mock everyday life, absurdities, and… themselves while they were at it. The organizers promised that even those who had already seen all the artists would hear new jokes. And these weren’t promises in the “I’m starting my workout on Monday” category, but a very real guarantee. There was so much premier material on stage that even the most die-hard fans had to laugh at something for the very first time.
A comedy sprint to tears
Krzysztof Jahns proved that festival awards and TV appearances don’t ruin your sense of humor. Quite the opposite—he deconstructed everyday situations with surgical precision. And the audience eagerly pitched in with more roars of laughter.
Tomek Nowaczyk, a guy who has run a dozen or so marathons, showed that he can run through the audience’s patience just as effectively… He only did it to treat them to a comedy sprint to tears at the very end. The author of children’s poems reminded all the adults this time that their lives are great stand-up material in themselves.
No pulling punches
Grzegorz Dolniak performed with the class of a gentleman, but he pulled no punches for his jokes. When he targeted human habits, you could get the impression that some of the audience laughed a little too loudly… out of relief that it wasn’t about them this time.
To wrap things up, Mieszko Minkiewicz proved that ten years spent on stage didn’t go to waste. With his trademark calmness, he served up story after story. Laughter spread across the room faster than gossip in a small town.
The evening ended with no casualties. However, numerous cases of stomachaches from laughing, tear-stained cheeks, and a temporary loss of control over one’s own seriousness were reported. One thing is certain—Tour De Stand-up Warsaw proved once again that the best cure for the winter blues isn’t tea with lemon, but four comedians armed with microphones and exceptionally spot-on jokes.
