Two Cakes, Two Characters, and a Sister with Sugar for Blood

Dwa torty, dwa charaktery i siostra z cukrem zamiast krwi – Krasnosielc

There are photos that remind you of important moments. And then there are those that remind you that in our family, a sense of humor is just as important as a good dessert. There are two cakes on the table. The first one is Lightning McQueen—perfect for my godson Rafcio, who at the time had more energy than a whole Formula 1 pit stop. The second is a cake for me—in the shape of a whiskey bottle. A symbol of adulthood, experience, and the increasingly frequent sighs when getting up from the couch. The generation gap was captured with downright confectionary perfection. Rafał got a cartoon hero, and I… a hero of Saturday nights. Of course, everything was made of cake and fondant, so the only high percentages that day were in my level of amazement.

The biggest round of applause, however, goes to my sister Marta, because she was the one who made both cakes. I don’t know how she does it, but she turns a plain sponge cake into a little masterpiece. One looked like it was about to peel out with screeching tires, the other like an exclusive bottle pulled straight off the shelf. Cutting such cakes was almost a crime. Looking at this photo today, I come to the conclusion that life fits perfectly on a single table. On one hand, childhood dreams of races and adventures. On the other, adulthood, which increasingly appreciates a comfortable armchair and a quiet afternoon.

One thing didn’t change, though—we were both equally happy with our cakes. Rafał had his McQueen, I had my “whiskey,” and Marta proved once again that talent in the family can be truly… sweet.
